Meet the Ambassador

Julie Tingley

As a native Floridian, I have called several Sunshine State cities home…but in my lucky #7th year in Tampa, I’ve never felt more grounded and more ready todo something for the community of women here that have become family.

After spending 15 years as an award-winning sales representative in the medical industry, I stepped away from my career to stay home with my oldest daughter in her infancy. When I attempted tore-enter my field at the same level, for comparable pay, I struggled in my search. I was told that the gap on my resume demonstrated a lack of commitment to my career—and that because of the time that had passed—my customer relationships were not relevant. I was hired by a company that was willing to overlook my absence from the field, but the pay was lower and the geography was huge. Shortly after I became pregnant with my second daughter, I was recognized for my sales performance and account acquisitions. The award came with a note from a VP expressing his appreciation for my ability to excel despite the “extra weight I was carrying”. I knew that day that I would not be returning after my maternity leave, and that something had to change.

I took 18 months off to spend time with my second daughter, Kate. It was the happiest and hardest time. And not because “momming” is hard, because that’s a given. The hardest part was knowing that my time in a male-dominated field had passed. With the responsibility of these two precious girls, I had begun the most important job I could ever land, and I was only just beginning. The outside struggle I was met with when I chose them would not be a struggle they would ever know. I was sure the future could be better and I had the power to make it so. When I learned about the KNOW Tribe with the vision and movement behind it, I found exactly what I wanted for Tampa, for myself and for my two little girls.

With this focus and energy shift, I have never been more excited for success—for the growth of KNOW Tampa and all of the amazing women in our unstoppable Tribe! Highlighting the Bay Area stand-outs is an absolute honor, and I am so humbled to be the KNOW Tampa Ambassador!
